The Bunya Mountains - Less than 3 hours from Brisbane by car...

A pleasant drive through undulating rural farm land and State Forests. There, for the whole family to enjoy, are the Bunya Mountains, Australia's first large National Park.

Enjoy walks along well defined and constructed tracks. You'll find friendly kookaburras, crimson rosellas, king parrots and many other birds. Wallabies abound; some will eat from your hand.

There are fantastic views, invigorating mountain air, and an acclaimed restaurant and brasserie.

From Brisbane to the Bunya Mountains: North-side route approx 240km.

Take the Bruce Highway towards the Sunshine Coast. Take the Caboolture/Kilcoy turnoff. Follow the road through Caboolture, Kilcoy along the D'Aguilar Highway. You will pass through Moore, Blackbutt, and drive into Yarraman.
In Yarraman, opposite the Hotel turn LEFT along the New England Highway towards Cooyar. Travel approximately 19km along this road; turn RIGHT towards Maidenwell/Bunya Mountains, approximately 12km. Turn LEFT at the Maidenwell Hotel; sign posted for the Bunya Mountains. You will travel along bitumen, then 6km of unsealed road, then bitumen again up the mountain. You will come to a T-junction at the top of the mountain. Take a RIGHT turn towards Kingaroy. Travel past the TV towers and then descend for approximately 2.5km and take a RIGHT turn into BUNYA AVENUE. Travel down Bunya Avenue past several houses on your right, past the campgrounds on your left until you see the two story General Store & Reception on your left, before the cattle grid. From Brisbane to the Bunya Mountains: South side route.

Take the Ipswich road out of Brisbane. Follow the signs for Toowoomba past Ipswich on the Warrego Highway. Take the ESK turn-off (the Brisbane Valley Highway) and drive through Esk and Toogoolawah and join up with the D'Aguilar Highway. Turn LEFT towards Yarraman, travelling through Moore and Blackbutt to Yarraman.
Follow the North-side route direction from Yarraman to the Bunya Mountains.

From Toowoomba to the Bunya Mountains: Approximately 100km.

From Toowoomba take the Warrego Highway towards Oakey. Travel through Oakey towards Jondaryan. Turn RIGHT across the railway line just before Jondaryan at the sign for Acland Mine and Bunya Mountains. Distance now 66km to the Mountains. Travel through Brymaroo, Quinalow and into Maclagan. Turn left at Maclagan Store to the Bunya Mountains. You will travel across some unsealed road and then bitumen before joining up with the Dalby-Bunya Mountains Road (turn RIGHT).
Then the climb up the Mountain is approximately 10km. Pass the TV towers and look for BUNYA AVENUE. A RIGHT turn into Bunya Avenue will take you past a number of houses and the camping grounds before coming to the General Store & Reception to check-in for accommodation.

From Gympie via Kingaroy

Take the Wide Bay Highway towards Kilkivan. Travel through Kilkivan, Goomeri and turn RIGHT to Murgon. Travel through Murgon towards Wondai and onto Kingaroy. Take the Bunya Highway towards Dalby at Kingaroy.

Kingaroy to the Bunya Mountains: 60km

Take the road to Dalby, travelling through Kumbia. Approximately 4km past Kumbia, turn LEFT to the Bunya Mountains. Follow this road (all bitumen), past Burton's Well, Wescott Camping area, Paradise Picnic area and look for BUNYA AVENUE on the LEFT. Turn into Bunya Avenue where you will pass a number of houses and the camping grounds before coming to the General Store & Reception to check-in for accommodation.

Dalby to the Bunya Mountains: 60km

Take the Bunya Highway towards Kingaroy and turn RIGHT across the railway lines on the outskirts of town. Travel to Kaimkillenbun. Turn RIGHT at the pub and follow the signs to the Bunya Mountains. Turn LEFT approximately 5km along that road to the Bunya Mountains. Follow this road to climb the Mountain (approximately 17km). Pass the TV towers and look for BUNYA AVENUE. A RIGHT turn into Bunya Avenue will take you past a number of houses and the camping grounds before coming to the General Store & Reception to check-in for accommodation.

From Nanango

Take the Brisbane road out of town, turn RIGHT to Tarong Power Station and continue on towards Maidenwell. Turn RIGHT to the Bunya Mountains at the Maidenwell Hotel; sign posted for the Bunya Mountains. Follow instructions as detailed in the North-side route above.
